Grade 3

Langerug School follows a holistic approach to the support of our learners. Parents, doctors, therapists and educators should be aware of early signs indicating that learners may need special intervention from an early age. Early identification and intervention are extremely important.
Currently Langerug School only accepts learners from grade 3, but grade 1 and 2 learners may also be admitted should there be enough applications.

Support

Smaller class groups (maximum 12) follow an adapted and inclusive mainstream curriculum (CAPS) that allows for individual attention to learners.

A structured learning environment

  • The space inside the classroom is optimally utilised with ample space between desks.
  • Changes with regard to the immediate environment is kept to a minimum.
  • A strict homework system is followed.
  • Positive communication between parents and educator is ensured.
  • Specific intervention entails learning support (remedial teaching), repetition of work, as well as reading and spelling programmes.
  • Assessment accommodations are applied where needed.
  • Additional time is allowed to complete formal assessment tasks.
  • An effective code of conduct enhances the development of self-motivation, self-assertion and leadership skills.
  • Sensory aids are used for concentration, e.g. bubblegum, pipe cleaners, erasers and elastic bands.
  • Cooling-down periods are allowed in cases of poor impulse control.
  • Therapeutic drumming is utilised to the advantage of the learners.
  • Regulating exercises and a music program form part of the daily program.
