Langerug School accommodates learners with the following barriers to learning in the SLD section:
Perceptual deficits

Hand-eye coordination skills are not up to standard.

Problems are experienced with the identification of colours, shapes and direction.

Spatial orientation and coordination are problematic.

Number, drawing and cut skills have not developed age appropriately.
Specific barriers to learning

There are specific discrepancies regarding phonetic, reading, spelling, writing and number skills.
Emotional barriers to learning

Emotional problems like the following may be present: poor self-image, lack of daring, insufficient dedication or diligence, or the learner is extremely sensitive, cries easily or is very young for his/her age.

There are problems with self-assertion.

There is a lack of impulse control.
